Mourinho: ‘Why is Wenger never under pressure?’

Jose Mourinho says he cannot understand why Arsene Wenger is “never under pressure” at Arsenal after reigniting his war of words with the Arsenal boss.

The Chelsea boss, who was keen to duck questions over Diego Costa’s suspension, was quick to deflect the attention on to Arsenal boss when the question of ‘pressure’ was raised at Friday’s press conference.

“I think in this country, only one manager is not under pressure. Steve is under pressure, I am under pressure, Brendan, Pellegrini,” said Mourinho.

“We cannot lose matches, we have to reach expectations, we have to meet our objectives, so I have sympathy for all of them and I believe they have sympathy for me.

“These is one that for some reason is outside that list, but good for him.”

Mourinho repeatedly declined to name the individual he believes to be the exception.

“Just one out of 20,” he added.

The Blues boss was asked for a name again and, although he would not name him, he appeared to be referring to Wenger, who pushed him in the Stamford Bridge technical area in October 2014.

“You know,” Mourinho said.

“He can speak about the referees before the game, can speak about the referees after the game, can push people in the technical area, can cry in the morning, can cry in the afternoon, nothing happens. Can be not achieved, keep the job, still the king. It’s a privilege.”

Costa is absent for the second game of his three-match suspension at Newcastle on Saturday after he was sanctioned by the Football Association for grappling with Laurent Koscielny in last week’s 2-0 win.

The FA rescinded a ban for Gunners defender Gabriel, who was sent off for his exchange with Costa, but Mourinho refused to comment on the decisions.

“If I answer I’m going to be suspended,” Mourinho said.

How Exactly Did We Get To The Primeknit 2.0?

It has been a labor of love for Adidas, as they looked to develop what in their words is “the best fitting boot in the world”. Over the past two years, we have been left wide-eyed at some of the prototype boots they have unveiled to get to this point, and lets be honest not all of that was good. But there was an intent to create shock-and-awe in an effort to grasp market attention.

So, how exactly did we get to this point and the Primeknit 2.0? Adidas give us a perfect “mini” breakdown of the boots used through the process. There are sure to have been other models placed before the development team, but these are the important ones used in the final decision making process.

First was the Primeknit Samba, released with Luis Suarez as the central advertising figure. The introduction of an upper made of knit material was kind of mind-blowing and there were many questions surrounding the protection it offered. But that didn’t stop consumers buying and the limited edition number sold out in a matter of hours. No doubt Adidas loved seeing that!

Soon after, adidas released another version with a grey toned upper. That too sold out extremely quickly, as players across the globe latched on to the idea of using a boot made of yarn!

When Nike released the Nike Magista series and that mid-cut collar, it probably caught adidas slightly off guard as they developed their own high sock collar style design. In the midst of the Magista release, adidas threw out some imagery of a compression prototype design they had in the works – the Primeknit FS.

It was a design that went against common sense and convention, one that we had many questions about. Luckily, it was never released and from the video, it seems like adidas only used it as a marketing ploy.

Furthering the development of a collar style design, they created a much better lookingPrimeknit FS2. This version ahd a much sleeker appearance and the actual sock collar looked like it would fit more snug around the calf. But again, it was never released and the overall design simply proved to be another unique stepping stone.

And then there is the final product – the Primeknit 2.0. There is a definite feel of compromise with these boots, as adidas chose to stick more a more conventional style. In saying that, there is nothing atypical about the the heel cut! It sits a lot higher, with the stretch material designed to provide more support up along the Achilles. How is that set to play out? I’m not sure – but I’ll tell you once I’ve checked out a pair in person!

Bundesliga round-up: Dortmund respond to Klopp news with win and Leverkusen thrash Hannover

Borussia Dortmund responded to this week's news that coach Jurgen Klopp will be leaving at the end of the season with a 3-0 victory over Paderborn.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Shinji Kagawa scored the goals for Dortmund, who are now just a point behind seventh-placed Hoffenheim, which may be good enough to qualify for next season's Europa League.

Paderborn, meanwhile, could slip to the foot of the Bundesliga on Sunday if both Stuttgart and Hamburg below them win their games in hand.

Sebastian Rode scored the opening goal for the visitors who added a second through an Andreas Beck own goal to take maximum points and extend their advantage over Wolfsburg, who play on Sunday, to 13 points with five games to go.

Given the Bayern line-up, Hoffenheim will be kicking themselves for missing an opportunity to strengthen their own claim for a place in Europe next season, although they simply created too little danger to test Pep Guardiola's men.

Bayer Leverkusen moved above Borussia Monchengladbach on goal difference and into third place thanks to a convincing 4-0 win overHannover which heaps the pressure on the Lower Saxony club's coach Tayfun Korkut.

Omer Toprak gave the hosts the lead and Julian Brandt added a second before the interval.

Hannover had no answer to a strong Leverkusen side, who added two more goals through Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Stefan Kiessling to climb a place in the table, leaving Hannover just two points above the bottom three.

Freiburg's comeback fell short as they went down 3-2 at home to Mainz on Saturday.

Two goals from Shinji Okazaki gave Mainz an advantage at the break, but Admir Mehmedi gave Freiburg hope with just under 10 minutes left.

Yunus Malli restored Mainz's two-goal cushion three minutes later and it proved to be a crucial goal as Jonathan Schmid's effort at the end for Freiburg was too little too late.

Hertha Berlin and Cologne took a point each from their clash at the Olympiastadion with the goalless draw seemingly satisfying both sides.

In the day's late game, Augsburg strengthened their claim for a place in the Europa League next season, moving five points clear of seventh-placed Hoffenheim thanks to a 2-1 win over Stuttgart.

Garth Crooks's team of the week: Bolasie, Benteke, Ramsey, Young

Manchester United's thrashing of a sorry looking Manchester City side was the headline act of another frantic Premier League weekend which saw movement at both ends of the table.

City's title defence is all but certainly over as Chelsea edged closer to their first title since 2010 with a narrow win at QPR.

At the bottom, Leicester breathed new life into their fight against the dropwith a huge win at West Brom, while Sunderland were embarrassed by Alan Pardew's flying Crystal Palace.

Here are the players who I thought excelled in my team of the week:

GOALKEEPER - Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea)

What a top stop by Thibaut Courtois to deny QPR's Matt Phillips. The save came at a time when Chelsea were looking a little vulnerable. The Belgium keeper was only called on to do his job on a few occasions but what he did in the 1-0 win was enough to keep his team with one hand on the Premier League title.

DEFENDER - Gary Cahill (Chelsea)

It was no easy game for Chelsea at QPR. A small, bumpy pitch; the sun shinning irritatingly in your eyes every time you go to head the ball. The longer the game remained 0-0 the more defenders felt the pressure. Well, Gary Cahill coped with all those elements as well as any defender on the pitch against a desperate QPR who were unlucky not to get a point from this match. The jubilation from the Chelsea players at the end of this struggle was further evidence of what these three points meant.

Ainsworth takes win in stride

Gareth Ainsworth insists there is still no pressure on his Wycombe Wanderers side despite beating fellow Shrewsbury 1-0.

Sam Wood headed home a Nico Yennaris cross after just 40 seconds to get the hosts off to a flying start at Adams Park.

Fred Onyedinma, Paul Hayes and Aaron Holloway each came close to extending the Chairboys' lead but they did not require another, shutting out Shrewsbury and leapfrogging them in the table.There's still no pressure on us and I'm not feeling it at all," said Ainsworth. "We have this squad that no-one fancied and we're still in there.

"I'm kicking every ball out there with them and I'm loving it. We're still defying everyone and playing this attacking, expansive football. They're a great bunch to work with.

"It's a big win. I thought we deserved it today and came at them in the first half with a high tempo and lots of pressure. We stifled the way they played and that was the plan all week.

"We got the early goal, which was great, but credit to Shrewsbury, after the break they really came at us and put us under a lot of pressure. They made a few changes but we were able to match them and saw the game out really well.

"Aaron Holloway changed the game when he came on. The ball was coming back too quickly at times and he held it up brilliantly."

Shrewsbury's chances were limited, though James Collins did force a smart save from Wycombe stopper Matt Ingram on the hour mark.

And manager Micky Mellon is eager to move on quickly from the setback, with a trip to mid-table Morecambe on Tuesday.

"I expect a reaction from the lads after today," he said. "We'll learn the lessons once we're back and look to move on very quickly.

"We'll heed the warnings from today and hopefully we'll go again in another big match on Tuesday night.

"We'll dust ourselves down and look at today. If there's anything we need to speak about we'll do so but then move on very quickly.

"In the first half intensity and battling were issues. It's quite basic, you've got to come and compete on bobbly pitches which are part of football this part of the year. We never met that challenge in the first half and found ourselves a goal down.

"Once they get themselves in front you see how they slow the game down. To give yourself a chance you have to score and we tried to keep ourselves in it for as long as possible.
